Maple News

A fresh stack of maple news is hot off the griddle!

Vermont’s Maple 100 event is now underway with sweet things to do here, there and everywhere; from hikes to baking to a rousing game of maple bingo, for the true fan of maple, it’s not to be missed.  In other industry news, Founders Brewing Company has just come out with an 11% version of its iconic KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge beer. Yowzers. And an international effort to conserve maple species is underway.

Celebrities are at it again! Hayley Atwell is a fan of maple syrup (newsworthy?), Carrie Underwood puts maple in her apple crisp (shocking!), and Dr. Anthony Fauci accepts Vermont Governor Phil Scott’s offer of a maple creemee by noting (1) that he is partial to ice cream and (2) would like to pour maple syrup over it. Here’s what a maple creemee actually is. Offer still stands, Doctor!

Oh, food! Oh, comfort. Grilled Pineapple with Coconut Ice Cream and Maple Syrup knows no season. But all these dishes scream fall: Maple Syrup and Mixed Nut Pie, Caramelized Onion and Apple Quesadilla, Maple Pecan Bread and Butter Pudding, Fall Harvest Bruschetta, The Self-Styled “Best Carrot Cupcakes Ever“, and Hot Spiced Apple Cider.

Backyard News

The spectacular, annual celebration of rural living that is The Common Ground Country Fair  is upon us. This time-honored event starts this weekend, will last all fall, and, thanks to generous sponsors (us proudly included) is 100% free. The fair will be packed with fellowship, information and vendors for all of you enthusiasts no matter what you do in your backyards. Get ready to be impressed; these folks have set up a fantastic event!

Those of us lucky enough to have a backyard are preparing them for fall and winter, causing patio heaters and fire pit sales to rise as folks continue to socialize safely outdoors even as temperatures drop. Also sighted in backyard news: red carpet couture, diy backyard craters, free dive bars, composting webinars, and backyard curling!
