Maple and Backyard News

Maple News

It’s getting to be that time of year! And maple-flavored news does not disappoint. Another university starts a maple syrup program, and West Virginia Maple Days are set. If you own property in southern New Jersey, you may have an opportunity to help grow the state’s maple industry. And New Hampshire takes a look back in time at Granite State Evaporators. In other industry news, take a look at current flavor trends in candy. Yes, maple is in there!

Feeling like cooking healthy? Us too. Check out Harissa Spiced Tofu and Soba Noodles, or this Rainbow Veggie Bowl. We don’t know who Kary Osmond is, but she sure likes her Vegan BLTs, and this Fire Cider is reportedly so good it’s medicinal. We may opt, instead, for the Miso Chocolate Cake!

Backyard News

When not learning about astronomy or spotting UFOs, doing citizen science, or turning our backyards into curling rinks, (and when not planning our sugaring hobbies, of course), we seem to be dreaming about better, warmer times to come. Is raising backyard quail on your list of things to do next spring? Growing asparagus and rhubarb?  Or perhaps your aim is deeper than that. Maybe, because you understand that your backyard is a conservation treasure, you will engage in some restoration agriculture in your backyard in 2021, or create a backyard park.  Well, have at it! We could use all the restoration we can get. Just don’t forget to look up from the seed catalog to spot a barred owl or other backyard wildlife.
