Maple and Backyard News

Mar 30, 2022 | Maple and Backyard News

In some backyards, maple syrup making season is just getting underway, while in others, it’s wrapping up and time to think about other backyard pursuits. Here’s what’s going on in maple and backyard news now!

Maple News

While sugaring season is at an end in places like Connecticut, it’s well underway in places like Michigan, and just getting started in places like Wisconsin and New Brunswick.

In other maple news, after COVID-era breaks, statewide maple celebrations returned! See, for example: New York, Maine and Vermont.

And this is rather big maple news: maple moveth west. While we’ve already had occasion to regale you with tales of big leaf maple syrup in the Pacific Northwest, we add to the known list of maple producing places: Idaho, Utah, New Mexico and Montana.

Here we are in the heart of maple season, and, we kid you not, maple news was dominated by Big Beverage. We bring you: A Very Serious Review of Pepsi’s (Awful) Maple Syrup Soda. Happy reading! If anyone tries it, let us know. That is, if you live to tell the tale. 🙂

Backyard News

Backyard news is warming up with spring-y news items.

Let’s get the bad news out of the way.  As much as we don’t want to think, talk or type about viruses of any kind ever again . . . avian flu is reportedly back in backyard flocks from Illinois, Kansas, New York and Maine to North Carolina, Minnesota and Iowa. May as well be everywhere. Shepherd those flocks, backyarders!

Looking to make backyard choices that help fight climate change, though? Or would you rather side-hustle by renting out your backyard to other peoples’ dogs? Because that is now also a thing.

It’s hard for us to imagine having too much sunlight in March, but apparently shade sails are all the rage. Or will be!

And that’s a wrap for this month’s maple and backyard news. More maple and backyard news is always around the corner around here!
